Scott Swing Series Fly Rod
To catch steelhead and salmon, you need to swim the fly at the right angle, the right depth, and the right speed. The right rod can provide the solution to that puzzle.
But these are the fish of a thousand casts, so preferences also play a big role. You can fish the same fish in the same water with a single hander, a short two hander, or the very longest rods. You can fish floating line, sinking line, dry flies, wet flies, traditional swing, riffle hitch, nymph and indicator. The variations are endless. So Scott made a series of rods to satisfy every preference.
The Scott Swing series feature progressive loading actions, fast recovery speed, directional stability, and a light in hand feel. The rods are made with multi-directional, multi-modulus layups, ARC2 reinforcement, Carbon Link resin system, and the very finest components.
The Swing series is a comprehensive line of fly rods that is sure to satisfy the needs of any steelhead or salmon angler.
Features of the Swing series:
- Progressive loading actions: The rods load progressively, which means that they load more easily at the tip and more progressively towards the butt. This makes them easier to cast and control, especially in windy conditions.
- Fast recovery speed: The rods have a fast recovery speed, which allows you to make more casts in a shorter amount of time.
- Directional stability: The rods are very directional stable, which means that they track straight when you cast them. This makes it easier to place your fly precisely where you want it.
- Light in hand feel: The rods are very light in hand, which makes them comfortable to cast for long periods of time.
- High-quality components: The rods are made with high-quality components, including titanium stripping guides with Silicon Nitride inserts, Snake Brand Universal snake guides, and a fully milled aluminum reel seat.
If you are looking for a high-performance fly rod for steelhead or salmon fishing, the Scott Swing series is a great option. The rods are well-made, feature excellent performance, and are available in a variety of lengths and weights to suit your needs.
According to Scott Rod Designer and President, Jim Bartschi, this was a particularly satisfying project. "The challenge of creating high-performance rods for both single and double-handed fishing applications to pursue the world’s most magnificent fish species was a long, and at times, arduous process but always compelling and fun. For this project, I had the opportunity to work with intensely dedicated salmon and steelhead anglers worldwide to dig into the smallest details. When you collectively get to the finish line on a project like this, there’s a lot of shared pride and excitement."
The Swing series of rods are hand-crafted, one at a time, in Montrose, Colorado.
SINGLE HANDED RODS
Sometimes the fishing or your preferences call for a single hander. These are the finest general streamer rods that Scott makes.
7wt 9'8" 4pc
This rod will prove your all-time favorite streamer rod for any species. It's ideal when deploying techniques like nymph and indicator, or micro-tube riffle hitching. This is a great all-rounder for destinations like Alaska or Iceland.
8wt 9'8" 4pc
This rod will cast a shooting head a country mile. It also excels for targeting big steelhead or salmon in tight quarters rivers like some found in SE Alaska, Great Lakes region, or Norway. This is the top rod choice for a dedicated silver salmon rod, handling both top water and sunken flies with ease.
DOUBLE HANDED RODS
Designed Short and light. These rods are exceptionally light in hand and scaled for smaller fish and more intimate waters. They perform well with both compact and standard length heads. You will find these rods are a pure joy to fish.
4wt 11'8" 4pc
When you have the urge to swing but the fish just aren’t that big, this is your rod, nicknamed the Half-pounder. Perfect for summer fish on the Klamath or grilse the world over. Great with floating or short sink tip set-ups, this rod allows you to deploy all techniques but is scaled to maximize the fun of smaller specimens in the water. It’s also a great rod for targeting trout with a two-hander.
6wt 11'8" 4pc
Pure fun! This rod excels at all techniques in waters where shorter heads and casting distances are called for and fish are of average size. It’s super light in hand and transmits a ton of feel but maintains a high level of stability when changing casting direction or using sinking tips.
ALL-AROUND RODS
High performance with most line types, these rods are light in hand, can fish from short to long distances, and provide great line control.
6wt 12'8" 4pc
As sweet as candy and as smooth as butter. Super versatile and fun to fish, Scott's pick when wanting to fish on the lighter side or targeting smaller to mid-sized fish.
7wt 12'8" 4pc
This rod provides the greatest versatility and enjoyment when pursuing most steelhead and salmon. It’s great with both floating and sinking lines, short to long bellies, short to long distance casts, and average sized fish.
8wt 12'8" 4pc
Great rod for coastal winter-run steelhead or Great Lakes chromers in the fall. This rod really launches a Skagit head with T-14 or T-18 tips and can turn fish on a dime. It’s also best choice for most salmon fishing conditions.
10wt 12'8" 4pc
Scott nicknamed this one the King Slayer. Perfect for tide-water King salmon, or giant Atlantic and Baltic salmon in tighter quarter rivers. If you’re into targeting the largest salmon on two-handers, this is the rod.
LONG RODS
Perfect for longer bellies, the furthest distances, and the greatest line control.
7wt 13'8" 4pc
While this rod casts shorter heads and sink tips with grace and ease, it’s our number one choice when choosing a longer belly line and making long-distance tight loop casts. A perfect rod for most of B.C. and most Atlantic salmon.
9wt 13'8" 4pc
Like its lighter line weight sibling above, this rod casts very long tight loops. It’s the first choice when sink tips are the norm and for targeting the biggest salmon and steelhead.
10wt 14'8" 4pc
Clearwater, Skeena, Gaula, anywhere you fish big water for big fish. Massive casts and incredible line control give you the ability to fish the furthest seams and lies. A powerful butt section lets you turn heavy fish in heavy currents.
VIKING STICKS
These Scandinavian style rods are faster in action than the long rods above. They are very light in hand for their length and line weight, and they produce very tight loops and high line speeds.
9wt 14'1" 4pc
The do-it-all Scandi rod. A joy to cast and fish due to its light in hand feel, ease of casting, and incredible line speed. Conquer fish the world over with this rod.
10wt 15'1" 4pc
When your fishing calls for 700 grains or more, and you need to make the longest casts in search of mythical fish, this is your rod.
10wt 16'1" 4pc
Like its smaller sibling above but with a touch of extra line control, and ease of fishing even longer belly lines. Scott's pick for fishing the biggest waters for the biggest fish.
