A mayfly nymph imitation. Mayflies can spend a year as a nymph but only days as an adult. An extremely popular pattern. Great for trout, salmon, steelhead and panfish. For rivers fished under an indicator or as a dropper under a dry fly. On lakes it is fished with short twitch retrieves.
